Granblue Fantasy Anime Gets Unaired 'Extra' Episode in 7th Home Video Volume

7th BD/DVD volume slated for October 25

The official Twitter account for Granblue Fantasy the Animation, the television anime of the Granblue Fantasy smartphone role-playing game, revealed on Tuesday that the anime's seventh and final Blu-ray Disc and DVD volume will include an unaired episode titled "EXTRA 2." The volume is slated to ship on October 25. The post showed a picture of Djeeta, the female player character of the game. While the anime mostly focuses on Gran, the male player character, the anime's 13th and final episode last Sunday showed an alternate scenario where Djeeta is the main character.

The anime premiered on April 1. Aniplex of America streamed the series on the services Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Anime Strike. Aniplex of America describes the story:

This is a world of the skies, where many islands drift in the sky. A boy named Gran and a talking winged lizard named Vyrn lived in Zinkenstill, an island which yields mysteries. One day, they come across a girl named Lyria. Lyria had escaped from the Erste Empire, a military government that is trying to rule over this world using powerful military prowess. In order to escape from the Empire, Gran and Lyria head out into the vast skies, holding the letter Gran's father left behind - which said, "I will be waiting at Estalucia, Island of Stars".

The Zankutinzeru-Hen (Zankutinzeru Arc) anime special debuted on Tokyo MX and the Abema TV streaming service in Japan on January 21, before the main television series. Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Anime Strike are also streaming that special.

The anime adapts Cygames' Granblue Fantasy smartphone game. Yuuki Itoh (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid) directed the anime at A-1 Pictures with Ayako Kurata as anime series director. Cygames itself was credited for the scripts, and Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) designed the characters. Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy games I-XI), Tsutomu Narita (Final Fantasy XIV composer and arranger), and Yasunori Nishiki composed the music. BUMP OF CHICKEN performed the anime's theme song "GO."
