From what I can tell, the dub was actually outsourced to Blue Water, which sort of helps explain why it isn't very good. I haven't been impressed by anything else they have done, but I was chalking that up to phoning it in on kids' shows. My suspicion is that Funimation would have done this one sub-only, but the licensor required a dub, so one was provided as cheaply as possible. The lack of dub credits or a cast announcement, and the unusual choice to default to Japanese audio all suggests to me that Funimation wouldn't have dubbed it at all if it was up to them.

A lot of people here have said that the dub sounds like something from Ocean Productions or Blue Water, and if that's true they probably didn't want any credits while forgetting to release the cast list (I even asked Funimation directly and they refused to comment). This is supported by our website saying they had a Canadian line writer, although the guy played by Jun Fukuyama sounds like Micah Solusod.

The dub may be awful, but is it hilariously awful?

Most likely paid for by the licensor themselves because really, why would FUNi pay more money to have it done in Canada, especially for a show this long (both seasons together make it over 70 episodes)? We all criticized FUNi for what happened with Shana & Escaflowne but then we see this and it makes me think they had very little to nothing to do with this dub.

I'm not so sure "too much narration" is a valid point against. You could say that perhaps the narration wasn't on topic or often spent time on tiny details when the series is in fact fast paced (narration should match the pacing). Otherwise, the amount of narration is subjective and could vary depending on the needing without feeling over-daunting. I was personally fine with the amount of it in Kingdom and it is very common in this genre to have a large amount of it.

True, lots of narration is a genre convention (though in shounen action I feel like we see more "fight narration" where a character is explaining the battle as it happens), but I really felt that Kingdom did too much telling and not enough showing as the story went on. I would have preferred to at least see people over the wooden markers.
