I fail to see a significant correlation between a founder of a popular idol group, song writer, and producer to an honorary president of an institution that views anime in an academic light.

This seems like a market grab to promote his xx48 idol brand more.

Idol anime are ok but yy opinion is I want to see more varied and compelling story telling.

I think it's related to endorsement for both parties.

Just because he's known for two popular idol groups, doesn't mean idol anime = AKB-fest.

If you compare AKB's recent single 'Kimi wa Melody' to their recently debuted 'rivals' Keyakizaka46's 'Silent Majority', both groups have completely different images. He has worked with different artists after all, so it's obvious they're not going to stick to just 'one' image for idol anime.

Idol anime IS one image. People nowadays might not know this, but 10 years ago there were actually multiple genres of anime!
