The Otakon guest list this year is so less than stellar.

It's funny I was wondering about this film when they introduced the art for the Pokemon Go Team Leaders. The design of Team Mystic reminded me of the protagonist of this feature. The designs look similar. I had wondered if the same person did the designs.

Wow, I guess I shouldn't be super surprised, given that they are likely in full transition mode trying to get things set up for Otakon 2017 in DC, but this is kind of a pathetic line up. Only a couple of Japanese creators are even going, and while seiyu are great, I'm a hell of a lot more interested in meeting the creative minds behind my shows. Sucks for me, since it'll be my first year there, but I guess, on the brightside, I will not have to pick and choose as much. disbarring horrible scheduling, I should theoretically be able to see all of the guests I'm interested in. As a backer of UTD, I'm not sure how much desire I have to watch it there, as the Blu-ray will probably already be in my collection, but for a chance to meet Koji Morimoto, I'll show up. Too bad Masahiro Ando won't be there. He is the other big reason I backed the project.

The lineups have been weak since 2014, coinciding with Otakon Vegas' formation. It's a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul -- Otakon Vegas, a money pit, is subsidized by Otakon Baltimore funds -- meaning less money and resources for Baltimore guests, etc.

^Well that's a shame. I hope they stop with that nonsense. From what I've heard Otakon Vegas is kind of a lame convention. I hate to see my best, and only feasible, opportunity to meet Japanese guests get shafted for something that I can't take part in, even if I wanted to.

I also backed the UTD kickstarter and even though I probably won't be able to make it to Otakon this year, I'm not sure how I feel about that. Shouldn't we have our copy by now before they premiere it to everyone (backers and non-backers alike?)

^Well, it still shows August 1st as the release date, so it sounds like they still plan to ship out the discs in the next week or two. If that's the case we might still have the set on our shelves before Otakon happens. I haven't gotten an email stating a further delay, at least.
