I'm surprised the more up-to-date earnings weren't posted as well - as of the 14th, Shin Godzilla has earned an estimated 3.36 Billion Yen ($32.6 Million USD). That doesn't just surpass Final Wars, that surpasses the 2014 Godzilla's ENTIRE JAPANESE THEATRICAL RUN. Not only that, but it was a very tight contest between it and The Secret Lives of Pets (4.8 million vs 5.0 million, respectively).
I think it's pretty safe to say that it's resonating with it target audience. Now the real question is, will its Japan-specific themes catch on at all with Western audiences? |
