Here is a somewhat related thread. (Which reminds me: I need to update it.)

EDIT:

Actually, that's not quite accurate.

So, you going to share all the joke answers put into the "Other" option in the new poll?

For the poll, I picked Mustang, not only because I wanted to throw him a bone regarding the whole Fuhrer business, but also because

1. He seems like a really good choice compared to guys like Principal Asano and Light Yagami.

2. Many of the other choices are Japanese, and therefore ineligible to run for president.

I know technically speaking, Amestris is similar to that of Germany, but it can be considered the America of FMA (And they also both start with "Ame-", whoa), so I think it works.

Hikari no Densetsu deserves at least a honorable mention (though agreeably the manga is better and ending differs). It might not have been released in English speaking countries, but I doubt Attack No.1 was either. At least this one has a fansub.

"While most Americans have probably visited an ice rink"

I do not personally know a single person who has visited an ice rink aside from my grandmother who used to travel to cities up north all the time.

He couldn't run anyway, he's not American.

I'm kinda getting annoyed at this recent internet joke regarding anime characters running for president, because a lot of them wouldn't be eligible for candidacy.

I know I may be seeing this a little too literally, but I think context is important.

I mean. It's a joke for a reason. A Japanese person running for president is far less absurd than the actual contents of most anime. Selective realism is silly.

You're reading way too much into it.

I don't have much experience with sports anime, though Taishō Baseball Girls and Bamboo Blade have been on my backlog for a while now. Out of the anime I've seen the closest to female-centred sports anime are Saki and Chihayafuru - pushing the definition of "sports" a little, but they're both about competitions, both can get pretty hot-blooded, and star determined female characters. Oh, there's also Teekyū and its spinoffs, but that probably qualifies as a sports anime even less.

Looks like someone hasn't read the introductory paragraph...

FWIW the question on the poll page doesn't even specify a country, and the one on the article page only really talks about a "country's highest office" (considering that a lot of the options in the poll are student council presidents/vice-presidents, I didn't even realize it was asking about actual political power until I re-read the latter question).

Speaking of the poll, alright confess, which one of you f...ine people wrote in "Adolf Hitler (Drifters)"?!
