So basically, Guilty Gear Xrd graphics applied to Dragon Ball Z.

That does make a lot of sense, especially considering Arc has done DBZ games before (Extreme Butoden, Supersonic Warriors) - 2D ones, no less. Portables, though...so here they're finally getting a crack at a big one.

Looking at the screenshots, this has way better-looking models than Xrd.

The reason they pulled the announcement is that they forgot to include the Switch in that list of game systems. Not because of E3 is next week.

Being "as good as the best looking 2D sprite fighter (I know they aren't sprites but that's the idea) on the market" is hardly a knock. This looks amazing.

I can't believe it took so long for this to happen. The last real 2d Dragon Ball fighting game came out in the early 90's. This is long overdue.

It finally happened, and it's amazing. This game will blow up in the arcades, really looking forward to seeing it in action.

Bandai Namco Entertainment posted a press release, dated June 12, that announces the worldwide launch of a Dragon Ball Fighters "2.5D" fighting game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam platforms in early 2018.

Not that I can foresee how connoisseurs of the medium will react to this, but will such an arrangement not be deemed as being half a 'D' too many?

2.5D typically refers to games fixed on a 2D plane that use 3D character models. Some, like the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games, might allow you to move into the foreground, but you're not given full 360 degree control.

Don't you know how this goes? Nintendo consoles only get support near launch. This will be coming out too far past that.

Huh? If you're talking third party support, then that's just not true. Heck, ATLUS just announced three more 3DS games for North America.
