The Cinderella Academy agency offered to pay the girls in yen but they declined, instead standing by their position on cryptocurrency

Sure they did.

The masked idol maids were brought together to promote a future where initial coin offering (ICO) offer hope, instead of the risks of "fraud" and "crashes" sometimes associated with virtual currency.

...Obviously this situation isn't going to help their cause. The greed of some people really makes a lot of things turn into cases of "this is why we can't have nice things". Hopefully they can still continue on in another form if they ever need to give up on the supporting of virtual currency.

That's really some dedication... on the part of their agency for the sake of character integrity.

Anything cryptocurrency related (Bitcoin, Etherium) is cancer, and it doesn't just affect GPU pricing it affects Idols too.

Cryptocurrency is dangerous. As we see it's easy to get hacked, there is no physical security. Plus, the currency has no fiat and is created out of nothing. Which is dangerous on an economic level.

Cryptocurrency's definitely a full-blown Bubble (lately, we've been using it for educational value, to teach the kids the psychological symptoms what went wrong with Mortgages in the 00's), but question is whether Japan really has experience with catastrophic Bubbles of their own.
Foreign investment in the 80's would certainly qualify, but that was politicized into a "nationalistic pride" issue rather than a greedy-uninformed "Get rich on the new frontier" mania, so they tend to blame everyone else or their own politicians for why the 90's-00's Recession happened.
We can talk about "This is how Mortgages, Tulips, Deregulated Energy and Margin Stocks first happened", but what historic caveat do the Japanese have to take their warnings from?

And on a side note...those are girls? Wow, were those luchadora-opera masks an unfortunate fashion choice as a "masked" gimmick. Shocked
I keep having to look at the still picture closer, to see whether it's not goofy male Sailor Scout convention-cosplay.

Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical about that. It's not hard to imagine a manager telling them that they would look like dedicated idols and help the company save face if they did this.
