Huh. My town’s Cinemark usually gets Fathom Events anime movies, like recently with Ghibli, but for some reason they aren’t showing this one, along with Heaven’s Feel. Guess I’ll just wait till they stream it somewhere. I used to think Fathom Events means it would be a wide release, but I guess it’s still pretty limited.

It depends on your market.
There are some areas where the anime fanbase is larger than others and it helps if there's a strong arthouse theater, too.
Ironically, both have gotten stronger where I live in the last 10 years. We have a fantastic art theater (Gateway Film Center) that usually shows most anime features.
There are also AMC, Cinemark, and Crossroads branch theaters in the area, too, so we're pretty well-covered.
Right now, we're in a bit of a renaissance where anime features are concerned. Frankly, I think the product coming out in theatrical films is BETTER than TV anime right now. At least, that's my perception. The production quality is generally higher, boosted probably by the example of Ghibli, and the direction's better.
The better, more satisfying films seem to be one-offs or adaptations of older material like "MIss Modern." F/SN: Heaven's Feel got high-press visibility and it's the popular franchise of the moment but it's far from being the best anime feature I've seen in the last year or even the best Fate installment, period.

I kind of wonder about the Ghibli exhibitions myself. The films have had three waves of releases (DVD-Disney, Blu ray Disney, and now Blu ray/DVD GKids) and I thought the theatrical exhibitions would have been exhausted and that most people who wanted to see these films already bought them on home video. Guess I'm wrong because they've had these annual screenings going on a few years now. I guess some people still want to see decent traditionally animated films! Too bad none of the American studios are making them now... I think they're missing something putting all their eggs in the CG basket but that seems to be the mentality with a bunch of media companies. They find one thing and milk it to death. Not as if Japanese companies don't do the same thing, either. They're just as guilty as American companies of cloning last years success and producing clones of it until they realize you don't always catch lightning in the bottle and then they move on to the next thing!
At least the Japanese and Koreans haven't given up on hand-drawn animated features yet...

My daughter-in-law watched the movie at Lynnhaven today, but got a refund, because it was advertised as a dub showing, but it was only sub-titled. Her son was unable to understand the movie. AMC Lynnhaven said they never had a dub version during the entire showing period. There was a line for refunds because of this.

Wondering if this was the same elsewhere?
