ugh. This CG is so ugly. ugly character models. Animation itself isn't AWFUL...but the CG is ugly. I normally love to give CG anime a shot...I loved Knights of Sidonia but I don't think I can even do 1 episode of this

So between this and Ingress, does Netflix have exclusive rights to the +ultra timeslot?

Every time Netflix announces something I get sad because it means 99% chance of no simulcast

Ugh, I was hopefully that the CG would be bearable, though while not horrible, its Definlty not watchable.

... how would you even be able to handle the shitty CG in knights of Sidonia if you can't even handle this? I'm not saying that Ingress has good CG cause it looks really damn iffy but Knights of Sidonia was FARRRR worse.

In Japan? No, since it's also broadcasting on TV. Outside, we'll have to see as the season goes on and next season if that's the case.

As expected, a pretty interesting premise and potentially good elements will get absolutely no slack here because the 3DCG is not *insert whatever purely arbitrary standard is applied*.

If it's not exactly like Land of the Lustrous, which is an exceptional production in terms of 3DCG quality but not representative of what other companies are both capable and willing to do under their own respective circumstances, then apparently absolutely nothing is going to be enough and any chance of a fair shake will be automatically lost.

That's not going to stop me from watching it, but does mean I'll have to look around and talk about this series elsewhere.

Netflix might never learn .

Learn what, huh? They make big bucks and the binge model has been a huge success since day 1 with their other shows. Why anime fans rage about it...entitlement and baby behavior.

I thought it was just me that was waiting for the answer as to what Netflix has to learn. Surely a successful, multi-billion dollar company will learn a lot from the wrath of a few angry anime fans.

Here we go with the "Entitlement" card again!

When I noticed it was produced by Shirogumi, I immediately expected that it would be done in CG. Conceptually, it really doesn't look bad though.

Depending on the number of episodes (is this confirmed as one cour?), I think it'll have a decent amount of room for showcasing the setting and a degree of character drama. I imagine it could be almost like a slightly more action-oriented El Hazard, if anyone still remembers that show.

The Japanese really need to learn how to do good CG before they start diving head-first into making fully 3DCG anime. It's not even that it looks ugly overall, it's that the characters are so wooden and lifeless. Take some tips from RWBY, where even on a modest budget the characters emote and move around with enough personality that the blocky backgrounds are completely forgiven. Take the budget and talent of a big Japanese studio with the sensibilities of RWBY and 3DCG could look gorgeous. So far, Land of the Lustrous takes the crown, but I really don't see any other competition.

Thanks for illustrating my point almost to the letter. Naturally, I don't happen to share this mindset. "Good CG" is, in and of itself, a very subjective expression. To be more specific, I think the trailer for this anime already has several scenes where the named characters (as opposed to those in the background or mob shots) don't look "lifeless" at all. Given the situations portrayed, their expressions are understandable. Even if they don't emote as strongly and over-the-top as they would do in RWBY. Which is a show that is also going for a different type of atmosphere. Then again, I've seen various people complain about the 3DCG quality in RWBY as well as in a number of recent Japanese series that are not blessed with the fortune of being Land of the Lustrous too, so I am afraid that there's almost no way to win at this.

It's only going to be 1 cour. The +Ultra timeslot is only 30 mins long and Studio Bones' Carol & Tuesday is premiering on the block in Spring 2019.
