Comiket ordinarily has no entry fee for general attendees

This is news to me! If any event of a similar calibre took place over here, entry would cost as much as a restaurant meal at the very least.

I think they should try to spread it out onto more days instead of having such masses of people on only 3 days. How about two weekends back to back? If they strategically split their most popular circles onto both weekends, a fair chunk of people would choose between the two weekends and the hardcore fans can just visit both.

The event gets more and more attendees every time and it becomes more and more inconvinient and eventually less fun.

The entrance fee is also a viable solution although I'm not sure how fair it is for smaller circles, as their fans now would have to double pay just to be able to get their newest work.

You buy the catalogue, which serves as a proxy for an entry charge: without the catalogue and the map you won't find anything.

[there are apparently strong rumours that it's done this way in part to get around the venue's legal capacity limits: if you don't sell tickets, you can run "surveys" and "estimates" instead of counting. But this isn't something I can judge the accuracy of]

Yeah, that was a surprise to me as well. If they charged something as trivial as $3-5 a head that would be a massive amount of money.

That probably wouldn't be viable. They're talking about adding a fee because costs are getting out of hand. Doubling the weekends would probably come close to doubling all costs associated with running the event, not to mention that some vendors probably couldn't show up for both weekends to sell their wares.
