Dont understand the goal or even point of the ban on twitter screenshots of uploaded manga, because how would you know the source? Uploaders could easily just not watermark anything.

So in theory, if this law passes, then if you are a Japanese citizen you wouldn't be able to snap a photo of a panel that made you smile? Or a line that made you laugh?

this kind of reminds me of the "anti-meme" law in Western Europe. Huge, bad-bad consequences. I don't recall what Japan's laws are regarding freedom of speech and expression, fair use, parody, etc.

Ridiculous law that should never pass. Good to see manga artist care about their fans enough to speak out and publicly object the proposal.

Fair use exists in US copyright law and nowhere else. People may ignore copyright law elsewhere, but that doesn't mean it's legal. Many countries have something like it called Freedom of Panorama, which means you're allowed to take pictures of buildings, even though their architectural plans are protected by copyright. You may remember the EU had a proposal a few years ago to ban Freedom of Panorama, which means it would have become illegal throughout the EU to photograph buildings, even those in public view, without the architect's consent. Never underestimate the ability of a legislature to pass stupid laws that nobody wants and that don't actually protect anything. |

They bitched about piracy so much and now that government released radical laws to end piracy the artists get pissed cause it wasn't exactly what they want.
I just hope their sales drop lower then when piracy was rampant and get pikachu surprised. |
