I signed up but after watching videos I'm not very excited. Gameplay looks very dull/lackluster and mostly mindless. I hope it's more engaging than it looks because I love the franchise.

Whether I can take advantage of the pre-registration bones would depend on how soon I get a new smart phone, because the one I currently have is most likely not compatible for this game. Otherwise, it’s a game I would like to try out. I like reading Madoka Magika so I am curious to see about this spin off.

I guess playing this game before the anime comes out will end up spoiling the spin off for you.

A video game based off of an anime where magical girls get killed one by one, where have I heard of that before?
And huh, Madoka's getting an anime sequel? I didn't know that...and huh, it's the second magical girl franchise I've heard that had a side story called "Another Story..."

It's not so much a sequel as an adaptation of the game's storyline, which (if I'm remembering correctly) established itself within its first 10 seconds as an "alternate universe" affair.

It's an alternate timeline that main series Homura never made it to (so far, though she still has time powers) and that main series Madoka says she can't remove witches from because it would destroy that universe.
Kind of torn on this... my JP account has pretty much everything I want out of the game and rerolling gachas makes me want to throw up a bit, but as I'm not 100% fluent in Japanese, it'd be nice to understand everything.

Interestingly, at least two things that the English versions of Magia Record and Fate/Grand Order have in common is that (1) they were released on a 25th of June, and (2) they would be released two years later after their Japanese counterparts.
If Magia Record's gacha rates are not any better, I may have found a third addition to the list.
