So after paying more than 100 euro on the season 1 collectors edition from Anime Limited/alltheanime I will not have the definite release? Honestly go screw yourself Japan.

The article is doing a really liberal interpretation of the official source tough. What they announced was a rebroadcast of the first season in 1 hour segments (so 13 episodes instead of 25, the first one is already 1 hour with commercials) and a "new cut". New cut just means re-editing the existing footage to alter the flow of the narrative, it doesn't imply new footage per se (tough things like Director's Cuts in movies often add cut content to make it worth people's time). Technically, just removing the the superfluous OPs and EDs would constitute a new cut.

The phrase on the website is "新規カットを追加し" which, despite the borrowed term, does not mean "cut" in the usual English sense, but "cut" in animation terms as in a new shot. So in this case, they are adding new shots to the episodes.

Japanese media sources are reporting new animation scenes are being added.

According to the announcement, they are not necessarily adding entire new "scenes" or "sequences," but new shots to existing scenes and sequences.

TIL. I stand corrected then.

According to Kobayashi Yuusuke (Subaru's VA) he recorded lines for this, so I think we can at least assume new footage, likely meant to fill out the runtime due the absence of some OPs and EDs after the combination. Now I have to wonder if CR will have any interest in getting this.

That is a given. The real question is whether they will give it a new dub and if said dub will be only in english or in at least four languages like the original. If so, it would be the first time crunchyroll has done so.

Well new scenes wont add that much effect to it anyway in my opinion, its mostly just a recap since its gonna be 4years since it aired and adding somethin little new for the hardcore fans is just a nice thing and not some major thing to fuss over.

But anyway super hyped for the new season cant believe its already been 4years since i saw it and the mermory of it still quite fresh, hope white fox does once again an awesome job on it.

I can think of at least one or two MAJOR scenes that were left out of the first season that would blow peoples' pants off in terms of general lore and the author has expressed how important they are to the overall story.
1) Yes, I think it's crappy that they're doing this.
But also 2) I hope they at least add these two scenes back in.

For those who want a hint (not entirely a spoiler), spoiler[they were cut from the scene where Priscilla and Al pick up Subaru and help him sneak into the castle, and the scene where Subaru tries to convince Priscilla to help him save the village.]

I can understand why they were cut if there were no plans for more since both scenes don't affect the first season's story and might overshadow speculation about season 1 as it aired, but now that there are plans for more, it's totally worth putting them back in.

It's a standard practice by now. For Psycho Pass they added a total of 8 minutes new footage, which featured.. basically nothing, and felt like a limp extension to the show.

Well, we all (who have read the novel/summaries) know what scene is going to be added right at the end of the last episode, probably as a postcredits scene.
spoiler[ Rem geting erased ]

Keeping that scene would have ben pretty cruel considering we would have to wait for a few years for the new season.

Sadly, the only way to see this coming, and I saw this coming a mile away since steins gate did the same was to be spoiled regarding the content of the last animated arc.

There's literally no way they'll add that in what's effectively a glorified rerun. They still have to cater to the people who only watched the original airing or bought the discs. It'd be ludicrous to actually move the story forward in this and throw everyone who skips it for a loop.
