They arent puppets. If they were puppets, there wouldnt be any point to it being stop motion.

Puppets have been used in stop-motion for over a century.

More to the point, the creators call their characters "puppets."

Huh? It's literally made with puppets that have replaceable parts.

I really understand where you're coming from. I think the term puppets is a bit odd to use here, but I guess that doesn't go for everybody.

1. References to wikipedia articles are worthless when trying to reinforce your points against other people.
2. I found nothing in that link to the creators that suggests they refer to them as puppets.
3. Even if they did refer to them as puppets, I dont suspect english is their first language so mislabeling something isnt out of the realm of possibility.
4. Just because a creator says something doesnt automatically make it true.

And for the other guy, puppets arent defined as having replaceable parts.

I had set a reminder on Netflix for this masterpiece. Cannot wait to rewatch!! Still would have liked an episode where the molcars turned against their human masters

And by what they are defined, if I may ask? Only by the live puppeteer movement?

Replacement puppet animation exists for a long time, and Molcar was made exactly by that technic. They are not models.

It's true that Wikipedia should be only a stepping stone to the definitive sources. So here are two definitive sources — two studios that are arguably the leading studios in stop-motion:

https://www.aardman.com/the-studio/history/

https://www.laika.com/careers

I would suspect that the first language of a good number of Aardman and Laika creators is English.

So on one hand, Laika, Aardman, and Shin-Ei Animation, among other stop-motion creators, say they make and use puppets.

On the other hand ... who is saying that these stop-motion creators don't know what stop-motion puppets are?
