While the outcry is nowhere as severe, I'm actually kinda happy that sexy anime guy posters got some pushback like you see with sexy anime girl stuff.

Well Azumanga Diayo's Op lyrics likened biting into an apple to a kiss, so I'll bet that's what they are thinking... Japan WTF...

Lol, what's "too much impact"?
My first thought when reading the headline was that fangilrs were breaking into stores cause they just had to have the hot anime guy apples, but reading that the stores didn't even want to put the posters on cause it's too impacting is kinda confussing Laughing

From what the article describes, it's more like stores themselves tried to prevent pushback from starting rather than it being a reaction to pushback. And seeing how certian other ad campaigns have been recieved online, I can't blame stores for being cautious. (That being said, part of me wonders if the stores would've been this preemptively cautious if it really was anime girls instead.)

The posters seem harmless to me. Just some well dressed avatars of the apples showing how awesome they are. It's not like they're in swimsuits showing their bulge or anything close to it.

Nothing in this apple selling campaign or Azumanga Daioh is nearly as suggestive as the egg eating scene in Imōto Sae Ireba Ii (aka A Sister's All You Need) which represented activity that would normally receive a XXX rating if explicitly portrayed.

Using Yoshiko Hanabatake to sell bananas would be funny, which is why it will never happen, but maybe Sasha Braus selling potatoes would work. Trying to think of a similar situation with apples, but drawing a blank.
