I'm glad Viz fired this guy as soon as the arrest happened, but I'm pretty dismayed to learn that years earlier he had been arrested for secretly recording videos of an elementary school dressing room in Japan. And yet Viz still hired him! Prior to that he even worked with kids as a teacher! Good lord.

Maybe Viz was unaware of his crimes in Japan, or maybe Koza found some way to hide his crimes through some kind of legal loophole or something.

I highly doubt it. The only reason Watsuki got off is because Japan has less strict laws in regards to child pornography than the US does. Since Koza tried to evade arrest and hide the evidence, he pretty much signed his own death warrant. Besides, the US is VERY hard on people who own child pornography as far as I know.

Doesn't work like that here

Probably get jail time, get off early, and have to be on the registry for sex offenders for some time.

Can't imagine what his job prospects will be, then again, he could use a pen name and still do translations.

Hope he gets the mental help he needs

I might just be dim, but don't think I ever heard of a grand jury being convened on an individual for felony child porn charges, is it just the volume or sale and distribution or some special circumstance?

Did he really think he could get away with it by throwing away the evidence?

Also. I have the first 2 volumes to this manga. His name is in there. I feel like throwing away the manga into the fireplace.

Only two volumes? I won't tell you what to do, especially since these are worked on by many other people (and he's certainly not getting paid anymore), but if it still bothers you on a personal level, it's juuuust two volumes. Not the biggest loss. I tossed out my entire Rurouni Kenshin collection, not because I thought it was harmful to keep or donate, but because I couldn't stand seeing the author's name in them. I thought I'd regret it afterward because I truly did like the series, but it's been a few years now and not a wink of sleep has been lost. Judge your situation for yourself. =)
