This could be the worst selling mainline FF game at launch. Even with 25 million PS5's sold I'm convinced a good portion of those are in scalpers hands or people who don't care about FF and just play yearly titles like Call of Duty and sports titles.

Probably, but I'm sure whatever Sony paid for the exclusivity will make up for any lost sales. And then six months later it'll make its way to other consoles anyway.

Most likely right. I just think it's stupid that there is no PC at launch because that's just sending mixed signals to me on Sony's stance on the platform on whether they consider it a competitor or extra revenue. Granted I was never going to buy it at full price since I think FF (besides maybe XIV) is past it's glory days compared to something like SMT/Persona and Xenoblade.

I waited over a year for FF7R on PC/Steam. I can wait 6 months for FF16.

I am currently saving up to be able to buy a PS5 by the end of next year and this game and FF7 Rebirth are the main (though not only) reasons for that. But I guess if unforeseen things happen and I can't afford, or find, one then I will probably be fine waiting just a little longer and playing it on PC anyway.
Which, if FF7Remake is anything to go by, I will want to do in the long run anyway. I keep getting suckered into buying the same dang games multiple times just because they get ported. I mean I own GTA V 4 times (twice on PC because one was free on Epic but still) and Red Dead 2 twice, among other such examples. Just for a little tiny bit of extra fidelity and a whole lot of extra convenience since I like playing on PC way more than switching over to a console.

I have a feeling that, if I DO manage to pick up a PS5 by the time these upcoming FF games launch, I will repeat that same "mistake".

Well, I think that will depend how Square is going to market the title, I'm actually curious how the game is going to do in Japan, the PS5 is doing considerably worse than previous Sony consoles there, it already sold over 2 million units, but it seems most of those consoles sold are sent to other countries. The software situation kind of reflects the state of the PS5 in Japan, no game for the platform has managed to sell over 200k in its launch week. If the situation does not improve I think FFXVI might have the worse opening for a main FF game in Japan.

Wow it did not even occur to me that people would import the system in Japan and sell it elsewhere. Meanwhile the Switch continues to do gangbusters on the software front along with the occasional PS4 game. I would be worried if I were Sony. While they do make a small profit on the system those margins seem to be slim. Software are the consoles life blood and if people who can't buy system can't buy the software that's a dire situation. Yes Japan is a small market but it's market regardless and seeing Splatoon 3 selling over 3 million in that country alone it's well worth the effort.

On the whole, PS5 is still pretty slim on console exclusives and I believe FF16 could be the system mover that Sony is waiting for even for its temporary exclusivity, especially considering that the supply issues seem to have been alleviated in recent months. And the fact that there IS a high demand for the console in spite of its slim offerings of exclusives. In the short term (for the next year or so) at least, I think PS5 will continue to do very well.

It's still almost a year before FFXVI comes out. Besides, there were under 20 million PS2s out there when FFX released and that sold great.

People should wait till after holidays when talking about how the title will do as Sony apparently prepared a large shipment for Q4. Whether it will be consistent, especially in Japan and NA, from then on is what will decide how well it'll do on PS5. Square Enix are probably well aware though.

With just a 6 month wait, I will just wait for the PC version myself.

If the game’s PC version isn’t being published by them in most regions it’s a competitor against their platform.

I'd like to point the hypocrisy of Sony complaining about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard when Sony itself has been paying tons of cash just to keep several games exclusive to the Playstation, lest we forget the Final Fantasy VII Remake was exclusive to the PlayStation for a full year before becoming available for PC.

FWIW, the team making this game including the writing is the FFXIV team. I have 100% faith it will be a good game

There's like 2 TRUE exclusives (not on PC or other consoles) right now. It's pathetic. I got a PS5 last month and have been pretty disappointed. I could only even enjoy it after spending $15/m to play...old PS4 games - half of which didn't even get higher FPS on PS5 due to no patch. I honestly see little point in anyone buying a PS5 over a PC. PC costs more upfront but within just a few years the online fees of consoles and cheaper cost of PC games offsets this heavily. Not to mention the fact that if a Pro model comes out, PS5 owners will NEED to upgrade to keep that 60 FPS since developers will focus on the Pro like they did with the PS4 Pro. Imagine spending $500 on a console every 3-4 years

I wouldn’t really call it hypocrisy absurd yes but not hypocrisy. Not to mention the COD stuff is different from this particular situation.

Other than the fact not all of us can afford a PC especially if you’re trying to get a 4K compatible one that can run at minimum 120 Frames.

?

Didn’t seem to make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things since you can’t really find new Pros out in the Wild for “reasons”.

What’s to imagine people spend roughly that same amount of money to upgrade their iPhones and have been doing it for more than a decade.
