A lot of folks really seem to like this one but sadly I couldn't get into it. The end of the first ep had a nice hook and the animation production was beautiful but the story was very predictable to the point where I was bored midway through and felt the runtime. I would probably be more forgiving if it was shorter. There's also something cynical about how it's a mishmash of popular tropes/genres.

While I disagree with your conclusion, I can definitely understand your reasoning. Yeah, there's very little thus far that hasn't been predictable, and I don't even mean "have to be a huge anime consumer to have seen the trend line" sort of predictable. Everything that happens is fairly well telegraphed in unambiguous terms beforehand, to the point that I do roll my eyes at the suggestion otherwise by some comments I've seen. But I think the execution has been pretty much spot-on so far. There isn't really any sense of missing the intended mark thus far. I do see some troubles ahead. Our hero has become rather misanthropic and single-minded. I get the intent for his character, but I do also feel they need to temper it a bit or he's going to become exasperatingly annoying to watch. And his sister's naivete is also bordering on the excessive. As early in the series as it is, it's hard to know with complete confidence how much of what we've seen is just surface froth and how much is the deeper elements of the story, so I don't think it's surprising some would see things poorly or trending to a poor direction. But, I for one see things a lot more positively and having the groundwork there, is used well, to be a good story and experience overall. |

I think the start of the serie is great and many people is hyped about what is coming. But I think it will go downhill after the first episode. The biggest shock factor is already over and the story won’t be that interesting. At least not worth the hype.

I also had some concerns along this line initially, but episode 2 alleviated them. The strongly contrasting ways that Ruby and Aqua are dealing with that trauma even a decade later, and how in each case their reactions are shaped by their past lives, is quite interesting, and the writing quality and thematic use is plenty good enough to sustain the series. Yes, the initial shock value may be past, but I cannot see enthusiasm for this series dropping off much. |

This is already my AOTY but I'm bias because I've been highly anticipating this adaptation since I first heard about it from Joey and Garnt on YouTube back in 2021. I knew it would make an impact and get attention once it was adapted but I didn't predict it would be this big. This is the first time since I became an anime fan that something I really enjoyed or anticipated had this type of hype or impact.

Honestly, I don't feel like watching this at all, exactly because of the hype. There's no way it's going to be as good as people are hyping it up to be and every day I'm being bombarded with screenshots and memes about it, so I feel like I've had enough of it without having watched it.
That kind of thing happened with Spy x Family too. I was a huge fan of the manga, but when the anime started, I was seeing so much of Anya every day that I got sick of her. Guess the best way to avoid this kind of thig is getting off social media |

If you actually like good drama then definitely don't pass it up. There's a few twists too. It's a little silly at first but then gets real serious fast. I don't think Spy Family was good, I thought it was pretty boring and predictable. Music and enertainment industry anime is always well done, usually in both animation and story telling. |

Good on HiDive. Hopefully they can take this boost and use it to improve their apps, make new apps, and improve their output so that they can be considered a proper Crunchyroll competitor

Good. I hope Oshi no Ko makes Sentai/HIDIVE tons of money, and they are able to invest it on licensing, their employees and service. I have heard that Sentai is a co-producer of the show. If that is the case, they couldn't have picked better.
I also tend to shy away from uber hyped anime shows, but in the case of Oshi no Ko the hype is worth it. I was also skeptical about OnK, but episode 1 sold me almost immediately. I often found myself thinking that the show's premise is kind of genius. As an anime only watcher I am very, very curious about how things unfold. |

I've been reading the Oshi no Ko manga for a while now and honestly the wild ride of the chapters that would become episode 1 had me hooked in a "I gotta see where this trainwreck is going" sort of way, but it's the content of the first two arcs in particular that really actually hooked me. A lot of what I love about the series is the focus on the performance and industry aspects, there's a lot of social commentary, critique, and even comedy around it that I've come to expect from Aka Akasaka's writing. The wild introduction sets the rules to the setting, but the way the series grows from there is what really makes it stand out in my opinion.
I'm glad this series is doing so well because my personal favorite arc is the one that would probably be covered in season 2 where he gets to critique his own industry a bit. Some of the writing in that arc is definitely him poking fun at his personal trauma, but it's also got some INCREDIBLE dramatic moments aside from that. |

Well... it's certainly genius in its audacity, and its meme-ability. I feel like it was deliberately designed to go viral on social media, and apparently it has succeeded spectacularly. Like... spoiler[our heroes are a male gynecologist idol fanatic, and a young girl with a terrible illness. They both die and are reborn as their favorite idol's babies. Cue seisou shenanigans like babies doing glowstick dances, and extremely-not-seisou shenanigans like breast-feeding while being mentally mature. And then, of course, their mom gets murdered to get back to drama and intrigue.] And I know all of this without watching it or even going on Twitter threads. It's inescapable. There's some kind of irony to it being a critique of the artificiality of idols while also being an incredibly popular idol anime running on wild twists and scandalousness, but I'm not really sure how to describe it. Anyway, while it's not impossible for a show like this to be good... it's most certainly impossible for me to enjoy it under these circumstances. Maybe later. |
