The Los Angeles screening will be held at the Regal L.A. Live theater with a special talk show featuring Japanese cast members Sōichiro Hoshi and Rie Tanaka, as well as the dub producers Michael Sinterniklaas and Stephanie Sheh (who also voices Lacus Clyne in English).

Welp. There goes the change of getting anybody from the Ocean dub (even if it were just Trevor Duvall as Mwu since he's in LA now) if its being handled by the same people who did the redubs. Guess not all nostalgia (the very purpose of this movie I might add) is valued equal.

Interesting that they're doing the premiere in the US though since last time I checked, SEED did pretty awful in the US during the initial airing and what not compared to other places to the point where Destiny didn't even air and was more or less Direct to DVD outside of a couple of VoD services.

Between Sheh, Sinterniklaas, and Rosenfield, it's pretty clear this will be using the re-dub's cast.

These kinds of screenings are often just vanity things for the Japanese crew, who probably aren't aware or don't care. They just get to say they had a red-carpet premiere in Hollywood and NYC. So even though they'd likely draw a bigger or more enthusiastic crowd in Toronto or Vancouver, that doesn't really matter. Those cities don't carry the same kind of weight.

All respect to the NYAV Post cast and crew, they're phenomenal talents, this dub just isn't going to feel right to me without the Ocean cast.

I don't know how you could even think this is a possibility by asking this question. Of course it won't, Ocean barely exists dubbing anime and NYAV Post will return.
Which I'm glad. I prefer NYAV Post dub, the acting & casting is great. It gets way more hate than it deserves by nostalgic fans of the old dub. The Ocean dub is very mixed to me and voices sound like they have a cold for some reason. As a fan of the sub I always found the Ocean dub strange, it sounds cartoony whereas NYAV Post is more close to the Japanese serious acting style which I prefer for this anime. Maybe that makes it more dull to fans of the Ocean dub since its not as over the top but I prefer it.

Lacus seems to have a strong focus for this movie and while Chantal Strand is super cute sounding I don't think it fits the character especially in this movie where she seems even more mature. Stephanie Sheh is way more accurate to Rie Tanaka's strong female performance with a slight cuteness rather than overly cutesy voice like Ocean did, she sounds too childish. Stephanie Sheh can obviously do super cute voice if she wanted but they choose to be faithful to the original performance.

Cartoon Network completely botched its release. It was the dark times of Toonami where they moved it to late night Saturdays instead of weekdays so anime like SEED, Zatch Bell and Rave Master were all doomed to fail. Toonami also died around this time after all. Also the edits for SEED were really silly, they went as far as adding neon lights to the guns and changing the sound effects to sound like lasers. lol
Apparently SEED had more success in Canada where the release wasn't so botched.

I can understand wanting this but its unrealistic to get this band together. Anime studios these days rarely work with Ocean and a lot of the VA's have moved on from anime.
When quickly looking at the main cast on BTVA, Cagalli's VA last anime role was 18 years ago. The actors for Kira, Athrun, Lacus, & Murrue's last anime roles were 7 years ago in Gintama(dub failed). As far as I know these actors weren't in the very few recent Ocean dubs like Dragon Quest, World Trigger & Future Boy Conan.
I'm not saying its impossible but it would be so difficult that Sunrise wouldn't bother with such a thing just to please a few nostalgic fans. The Ocean dub is not some iconic dub where the studio would go out of their way for. As the ANN reviewer called the Ocean dub in a DVD review "It's a functional dub that really won't win any attention, either positive or negative" which I agree with as I'm mixed about it.

I hope we get a nation-wide theatre release next month. I definitely see this as a possibility. I mean look, Bunny girl senpai is getting a theatre release at the end of the month and that is no where near as popular as Seed. I'm going to miss the oceans dub cast but I will watch this one in subtitles instead of the awful newer dub.

SEED and SEED Destiny aired in their entirety on YTV's Bionix Anime block in their entirety & I would easily say the Ocean dub for it gets more hate than is warranted. Ocean's Gundam dubs may not have been as great as Black Lagoon, Death Note, or Escaflowne, but they were entertaining & mostly fitting to their source material. Ocean probably should have upgraded their recording setup, but I wouldn't say the quality of most of their actors were ever in question.

The Gintama dub may have not been successful, but the performances were certainly not the issue. One listen to the "newer" Ocean dubs like Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail show their quality & performances are excellent, even if they get less anime work now.

Sunrise may have moved on, and NYAV Post puts out almost uniformly great work, but it still feels like an opportunity lost whenever an English dub cast can't come back to reprise their old roles. There's a reason why fans are ravenous for stuff like the upcoming original Digimon movie redubs with the mostly OG cast & Rebuild's Eva 3.0+1.0 return to the OG dub cast after Netflix's redub of the original series.

This stuff is subjective, but when you have a "bringing back the band!" Nostalgia movie where all the band members have been replaced, it takes a lot of the appeal away for fans of the OG dub (even if that group is small)

I haven't watched Ocean's newer dubs so maybe they have improved. Are the dubs for Dragon Quest, World Trigger, Future Boy Conan or Zoids Wild great?

So i guess the rest of the viewing audience in the United States is going to have to wait for June/July ?

Seems like Bandai is still reeling 20 years later at the though of Seed doing anything other than failure on US soil.

I’ve only watched Dragon Quest and Conan from these, but it’s hard to judge from those. Dai’s dub is good, but is intentionally going for a 90s Saturday morning vibe at times, and Conan’s dub is very solid, but at times at odds with the really old animation.

ANN just did an article on Dragon Quest Dai and said the dub was good, it sounding cartoony fits the show it seems. I'll have to watch it soon.

For Eva Rebuild, that's an even different situation. If they used the Netflix dub, then there would be no continuity with the other Rebuild films. But then, we got an added swerve of not using the same complete Rebuild cast and got the OG TV cast mixed in (which then included recasting Rebuild Rei and Mari Confused ). Unless you meant when Amazon redubbed the first three Rebuild movies alongside the release of 3.0 + 1.0.
