Sorry to see you go Brian, you were enjoyed.

On to the book...I love VC, so this was a no-brainer purchase for me, and I got it at Rightstuf's Udon sale (along with almost $150 of other stuff!). Despite the numerous delays, it was worth it. Such a well-made book full of info and great artwork. Kudos to Udon for bringing it out, and here's hoping for lots more!

Just please, please, PLEASE put Megaman Complete Works back in print so I can get it for under $90 Crying or Very sad

Hope to see your return eventually. ^^

Valkyria Chronicles...I haven't touched a single game in the series and I've only watched up to 10 episodes of the anime before I abruptly stopped (I really need to go back and finish it). A lot of people consider the first VC to be one of the very best games on PS3 (as well as one of the very best RPGs out there, which is a given considering the slim pickings on the console). I'd like to be part of the Valkyria faithful, but when that will be, I do not know.

Awww, that's too bad, this has been one of the best things to happen to ANN. I've referred people to it a number of times, and will likely continue to do so for the past articles. Completely understandable, though - good luck with that dissertation, and I'll be looking forward to whatever other work you put out in the future.

Aww man that's terrible that you're going. Really enjoyed your columns.

I've had the chance to view the game and I enjoyed it immensely. Really enjoyed the artwork it was refreshing and being a small fan of Hitoshi Sakimoto I felt his music fit. But then again he's becoming synonymous with "tactical" games since his 'Ogre Battle' days. I had the privilege of pre-ordering the book when it was first announced in a past column. Got mine for $21+ from Amazon doing their "pre-price pre-order". Picked up another copy for a friend since he's played the game and has the figure set. But man, I didn't quite expect this book to be so big. Usually when I buy artbooks like this they are usually the size of the old 'Xenogears' artbook or a little smaller. This book was a beast.

Best of luck, Brian. I enjoyed your columns.

Though I'd heard of the Valkyria Chronicles title, I didn't know much about it, until now. Considering how much attention to detail seems to be present, I'd definitely welcome a North American release of the anime series and OVAs (preferably with an English dub and on Blu-ray).

At over four hundred pages and in full colour, the artbook sounds like extremely good value for the cost.

I also loved your column, particularly Ace of Database. I wish you the best on your road through Academia, a path I intend to follow as well.

Your mention of Xenogears makes me wish Udon was around doing this, when the Perfect Works was released in Japan. ::sigh:: How I wouldn't love to have an English-translation of that beast of an artbook.

Good luck Brian on your future endeavors.

I pre-ordered this book a while ago. It looked like a large book but I was surprise how thick it was when I got it. It's definitely worth getting the book for the amount of content is packed in it.

Good luck and godspeed, sir. I shall offer a prayer to the all-powerful Atheismo that your Phd will (eventually) gain you more money than it cost.

The PS3 game of Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games out there, but do yourself a favor and avoid the anime series. It completely missed the point of the game and turned into this generic shounen crap. But that game is something else. The side characters are so detailed they are almost main characters in the end.

/I loved sending characters out on suicide missions, then screaming their names dramatically after they'd get cut down.
//Jann Walker was my favorite character to use, mostly because he was voiced by Bender.

You can leave with the knowledge that you did great work in my eyes, Mr. Ruh.

As a huge fan of art books, I'm going to want to pick this up--moreso over the Taka Tony/Shining Tears art book that was released almost alongside the VC one. It's always fascinating when art books include pre-production notes or backstory info. I recall that these elements drove me to import a Tsukihime artbook about five years ago. Too bad I can't read Japanese, because there are a few choice interviews with Nasu in there...

Thanks for all of the great columns, anyway. Hopefully, we'll be seeing you again. Good luck with your dissertation!

I'm sad to see you go, Brian. I always found your articles thought provoking and you have shown me new things to enjoy in anime. Your inspired me to buy Beautiful Fighting Girl, which has stimulated me to look at anime in an entirely new way. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the great articles.

Glad to see this book and series get more exposure, this is a great book and the PS3 game was indeed incredible.

Now I'll also have to put in an order for this upcoming book for VC2 since I didn't realize they were doing one. Smile

Man, as a massive Xenogears fan, took the words out of my mouth, that would have been awesome back in the day.

I have Valkyria Chronicles Design Archive and it's a nice thick art book.

I was able to get my book at Chapters for $32.92.

This has to be one of the best video game/anime art book I have seen on the market.

Udon Publishing is on the roll with these video game art books.

The book covers on the storyline, characters bios (including the minor ones), equipment, weapons and early sketch artwork.

The only thing would have made this better is a hard cover.
