Why didn't we get this sooner?

But one thing's certain: If we get FF7 on Steam, Valve had better put some Final Fantasy hats and weapons in TF2! Maybe Cloud and Sephiroth's swords for the Demoman and Soldier and Barrett's gun for the Heavy! MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I'd be excited, but the PC version of FFVII is notoriously horrid. Having played it myself about two years back when I first started torrenting junk, I can vouch for the poor quality of it. I'll buy it to show SE we want more games like this, but honestly, I'll just stick to the PSone copy I came across recently. I'd advise others to do the same if they want to play it.

And honestly, I'd be more excited if the PC ports of the Sakura Wars games were coming to Steam. ;3; My campaign to get that to happen is failing thus far though.

I like this idea, if for no other reason than I like the idea of more JRPGs on Steam. XSEED put an Y's game there. I don't know how it's doing, but judging from some of the interviews I've read with Japanese devs and producers, they are watching services like Steam to see just how viable they would be.

I'd give a Steam FFVII port a shot.

It's incredibly easy to hook up a 360 controller to one. It takes nothing more than USB wireless reciever if the controller is wireless.

Just remake it already Square... for multiple consoles. I have already read lots of article listing a FFVII remake as one of the most desired games asked by fans in all parts of the world.

I played VIII and later VII on the PC and VII is the only older game in the series I don't own (can't find a ps1 copy for a reasonable price), so I'd definitely pick this up if it turns out to be true.

I don't recall having any issues with the port when I played it (other than having to patch it for xp), what about it was horrid?

USB gamepads are pretty easy to set up on a PC. But, using a keyboard to play a RPG isn't awkward at all - use the arrow keys for exploration and whatever other keys mapped to other functions (that's how one played PC RPGs back in the day).

I have those Xbox 360 / PC "common controllers" from Microsoft.

I played FFVII on the PC too when it first came out (Win98?). (I have both versions.) So much easier to extract FMV files off a PC game CD than a PS1 disc! Laughing

Played Ultima on the PC before consoles. Actually when consoles came out, I found gamepads to be more limiting than the faster mouse+keyboard combo, particularly in inventory control. Laughing

What's wrong with using a keyboard and mouse to play a JRPG? If you can play old school Zelda/Final Fantasy/Mana/Bahamut Lagoon on an emulator, you can play the Steam version of Ys with a mouse and keyboard. And it's not just JRPGs--Western games such as Diablo and The Elder Scrolls are meant to be played with the same way. A regular controller can be limiting, especially if you're in a fight against some strong enemy and you need to be able to quickly access potions, spells, and weapons (Nothing like hitting the right hotkey and casting a 100% Chameleon spell in Oblivion, then killing Mankar Camoran, Jyggalag (With Shivering Isles), Umaril the Unfeathered (With Knights of the Nine), or some random xivilai or daedroth). Try that with a controller--it ain't easy. Keyboard? Hell yes! (Although it was mighty retarded of Bethesda to give us so few hotkeys. Nothing mods don't fix, though.)

But if we do get a Steam release of FF7, Valve had better put some promotional hats and weapons in TF2. Nothing like playing as a Heavy with Barrett's minigun or as a Scout with a Cloud wig. Even a re-skinned Medigun for the Medic will suffice while we wait for the new crafting ingredients to actually become useful, some new Dr. Grordbort weapons/hats (So far, we've only seen them for the Soldier, Pyro, and Engineer), the 2nd annual Saxxy Awards, and Meet the Pyro.
