I can't wait to see how well the film performs throughout its theatrical run.

There has to be a mistake in that number. No way has it earned in half a day more than half of what the 'The Matrix Reloaded' earned in its record 2.22 billion yen opening week-end.

Not to mention a few chains in Japan which represent around 25-30% of the market release their numbers daily (Toho, Movix, Kinezo....) : http://mimorin2014.blog.fc2.com/ and their numbers for saturday point towards a weekend total of 500-600 million yen which is still a great performance and will still be a record for the franchise all the while being much less nonsensical than that 1.47 billion yen in half a day number. It would also explain this part of the article :

Quote:
The Last -Naruto the Movie- (the 10th feature film in the franchise) is poised to eventually top 2 billion yen (about US$16 million), a record for the franchise.

And such an opening should indeed guarantee it an easy 2 billion yen total (if not more) eventually.

I get the feeling that a lot of people are watching it just to see "The Big Damn Kiss." Neutral

Its almost like two completely different stories are being painted. The one in the link paints the movie as a horrendous piece of trash (while ONLY quoting from anti-The Last threads obviously).

And then there's the other side from people who have physically gone to watch the movie being immensely satisfied; though not a perfect film (some of the complaints in the above link are consistent with people I know who watched it firsthand as well).

In the end, I stand by my previous post. And boy are there hilariously butthurt NS fans quoted in the above link. Laughing

That person is quoting the 2ch anti threads (of which there are few) which are made specifically for dislike of things

I found myself in the very satisfied camp last night, but I went in with no delusions of chapter 700 being a genjutsu, and had been happy overall with the manga's ending.

I've read some Japanese comments, too, and what I saw was a majority of happy customers with a few who hated it for whatever reason -- and that's par for the course for anything. As you pointed out, a number of users said 突っ込みどころがある (There are places that can be criticized/made fun of), even while saying they enjoyed it overall.

One note to fans who aren't into Japanese mythology: Naruto in general is full of references to it, but usually they're so far removed from the original stories that it doesn't matter. In this case, though, if you have a chance, I'd recommend seeing Ghibli's excellent "The Tale of Princess Kaguya" before this. You may get a little more out of it if you do.

I'm interested in knowing what the plot could possibly be when the entire last year has been about fighting the war. How would naruto do a sidequest in the middle of fighting jyuubi? Surely every good guy and bad guy came together and decided that as much as banishing shinobis is important, they need to set aside time to consider movie revenues?

The movie is a canonical continuation from the last manga chapter (Chapter 700). It happens after the Fourth Great Ninja War.

Actually, it's between chapters 699 and 700; two years after the war, and several years before the epilogue.
