Pottya seems to be more "authentic" chubby girls.

I saw the Chubbiness group's video a week or so ago and, while those girls don't look anorexic, I wouldn't exactly call them "chubby" either, just a "healthy" weight.

That was quite a cute video of the Pottya idol group. Anime smile It's a shame to myself that the video got more dislikes than likes (35:46)...

The Chubbiness girls aren't chubby at all, at least by American standards. I'm not sure what the BMI standard is like in Japan, though.

Assuming they are of average height, their BMI makes them overweight. That's not just "Japanese standards" that's everywhere.

The other group was the 'little bit of meat on the bones' sort of chubbiness. This is more along the lines of the 'dangerous and possibly life shortening' group. Though I suppose it's far more authentic given the name of the fad is 'Marshmallow Idols'.

The average height of a woman in Japan is 5'2, however it's impossible for anyone to know what their BMI is (which isn't always an indicator of anything at all) if you don't know their weight, as well.

The weight for the Chubbiness girls isn't mentioned in the article, only the Pottya girls.

However, they are by idol standards. Most idol Otaku want rail thin idols although you have some who want healthy idols like most of the ones in Chubbiness. Pottya has all fat idols (the center and the last one to the right are cute though and the second to last to the right as well but the other 2 to the left are below average and could look better with a another hairdo at least).

I registered with the site to simply say that i love me some thick women! Nice to see a group like this in Japan. Would never happen in America. They would get ridiculed till they quit.

I wouldn't really call this life threatening. They are overweight, but not hugely so. I have seen far 'weightier' people life long and happy lives. There are many scientific opinions, including those that say the current BMI standards are a bit crap. Plus these girls at least have an active and energetic occupation, at least for the moment. Wink

Two girls of the same height and same weight can look very different. Weight can make one girl shapely and can make another girl pudgy. It depends on the fat distribution, which depends on genes, and Asian genetics usually do not handle the extra pounds well (there are exceptions of course).

Regarding BMI, the more muscle mass you have, the less applicable it is, because muscle weighs more than fat and the BMI standard assumes a proportion of your weight is fat rather than muscle. So it's completely inapplicable to body builders and muscular athletes, but for the average, mostly sedentary person it's still useful, especially for females who have inherently less muscle mass.

That raises the question: if they continue and loose weight do they get kicked out?

I would never say never. After all, we already have "Fat Guys in the Woods".

If the idol life's choreography is as physically demanding as it is displayed in anime, then these girls probably won't weigh as much when they graduate.

For their very first act, they were surprisingly well-coordinated. The auditioners chose them well.
