Can I just say that the anime adaptation of this was the very first BL/shounen ai title I saw that I actually thought was good. Yes, it could have done without the standard assault scene, but even that didn't bother me as much as I thought it would because Ryouma was so distraught at what he'd done.

If he was thinking it, I could see Izumi using the phrase "totes adorbs". I don't think he would ever say it out loud, though, if he actually said it, that would be kinda strange.

Great review, meshes well with what I have seen of the anime. Is the anime a panel for panel faithful adaptation or something?

It's pretty close, minus the censoring. I think we're going to get more Rei/Shogo in the manga as the volumes go on.

The "totes adorbs" slang was used in the release of Evergreen and Magical Girl Apocalypse recently. I'm not sure why it's suddenly in a handful of releases, as it's going to age the translation pretty quickly.

I also agree with the previous poster that it's primarily a typed internet slang. No one actually says "totes" anything, except perhaps ironically.

"Totes adorbs"? Is that some sort of catch phrase from some popular TV show I don't watch because that's the first I've heard of it? Whatever it's from, I'm glad I don't watch it.

One thing about the Love Stage! anime I liked was the symbolic elephants with the rather curious trunks that look suspiciously like... something else. Elephants should be mascot characters way more often.

Same here. I saw a lot of complaints over it when that episode came out, but I kept assuring people that this would be one of the rare times you see character truly redeem himself from that.

I don't think I'll be looking forward to the 'totes adorbes' line simply because of how American teen girl-ish is sounds...

I agree. This is one of the less rapey yaoi anime out there (other than the Kono Danshi series) which makes it so refreshing and they act like an actual couple, not some sexualised beings.

I quite liked the anime of this one – I might get the manga the next time I place an order with RightStuf.

The review states that the anime aired in 2013; actually, this was in 2014.

Whoops, you're right - and I even had the encyclopedia entry open when I was typing it! Embarassed

Sadly I have heard it said aloud, non-ironically, by some of my students (mostly college first years), and definitely by some teen girls at the library. But we do tend to be behind the times in Maine, so I wouldn't be surprised if people elsewhere weren't saying it anymore.

But gah, every time I hear it (or read it), it makes my skin crawl. Confused

Don't get cray-cray about it. Laughing

Youths the world over like to abbreviate slang. Heck, look at abbreviated Japanese slangs.

Slang always is awkward when used by someone who doesn't quite understand it, for the wrong audience or after its "best if used by date".

Well then come on down to Los Angeles where people use it unironically all the time!

I... I use "totes" myself .... (maybe not the "adorbs" part though. ...for some reason. .... I treat language oddly I think.)

"A slight nagging feeling that we ought to have read the novel Back Stage before reading this."

Much as I love LS!!, I'm getting to the point with it where I'd say you'd be better off just ONLY reading Back Stage!! :/ Shougo and Rei's relationship does drama way better, there's way more sex, and the build-up to an actual healthy mutual relationship between them (and the eventual pay-off) is so much more satisfying.

So many people avoid novels like the plague, but I think that's just because there haven't been many good translations. More companies should invest in translating these side novels because there are some real gems in there.

The same goes with the 'Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai' side novels to the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series. Nakamura's manga gets so long and boring and repetitive and problematic, but damn if those books aren't better than all of the manga put together.
