I love that Iga and Inafune have found success outside their previous works. As long as they keep bringing the goods, I'll keep supporting them. I hope it pisses Capcom and Konami off too. Maybe get them making games again.

Its almost at 800,000 now. The unreal 4 engine is going to make this Igavania game look great. 2017 really can't come fast enough. For ten grand you could go on a "Iga Adventure". I'm sure it would be awkward as hell.

Can't stand Unreal for shooters but this does look good. However I disagree with the previous statement that says they found success outside of their previous works. This game, based on everything shown to us, is Castlevania re-named. Even the male character sounds and looks like Dracula. Same with Mighty Number 9...just Megaman with a different name.

This is sadly what they must fall on, though. They can't really make Castlevania or Megaman because Konami and Capcom won't let them, so their only alternative is to use kickstarter and fund something really, really similar if they want to make one of their games again.

And now we're closing in on the final, known stretch goal (i.e. Hayter lending his pipes to the game's VA talent)

I'll say both have met their initial goal for funding both projects, compared to being rejected by their former employer. It shouldn't garner much more thought than that. It's an exciting time.

Huge stuff. I was just lamenting the death of the Metroidvania style of game after reminiscing with a friend about Order of Ecceslia which amazingly is now a 7 year old game. Its great they were smart enough to get Michiru Yamane too who's music is synonomous with the franchise. Now they just need to confirm Ayama Kojima for artwork and it'll be an easy day one preorder.

Unreal is just an engine.

Intriguing to see more and more game developers leaving traditional publishers that no longer interested in their games, and using crowdfunding.

Hey, don't forget that La Mulana 2 is in development right now after its successful kickstarter last year.
That's not a Metroid or a Castlevania, but it's most definitely a Metroidvania Smile.

I am going to guess you don't play indie pc games. There have been quite a few Metroidvania style games coming out the last couple of years. Not all of them are great but there is some good stuff out there.

Also, for the DS if you haven't played it try Monster Tale.

This weekend's Toonami just reviewed the anime-inspired Metroidvania game Ori and The Blind Forest and gave it 9 out of 10:

(Apparently sold well enough that it turned profitable in just 1 week.)

Oh Konami how badly you have failed. I love it when old series get rebooted out of pure fan support despite being forsaken by the big companies that own them.
