So, where's Kindaichi? Or he is too old?

Of course Conan would be #1. He's the downright poster boy for this.

When you think of anime kid detectives, 9 times outta 10, people will think of him.

And I assume Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4 is disqualified for being a teen?

Also, in a couple episodes, Fuyuki from Sgt. Frog turned out to have a natural knack for part-time kid-detecting, until Keroro stepped in and tried to turn himself into a Kindaichi parody, and pretty much bungled the case by finding only clues that implicated himself.

(As for C. Auguste Dupin, I remember my Holmes-fan dad always telling me that when Sherlock Holmes and Watson first met in "A Study in Scarlet", Holmes bragged about his hopes to open a new detective agency, and Watson laughs "So you fancy yourself the next Dupin, then?"
Yep, even Watson admitted Holmes wasn't the first. Cool )

I've only seen Heavens Memo Pad from this list but Alice was adorable, greatly enjoyed that anime.

Woo, go Conan! I expected him at #1, of course, but I just need to cheer him on.

Exluding the people who have to seen the show, but since its rather popular in Japan, that probably only applies to those outside it.
Although Kobayashi was written way before him(In the '30s).

Not sure where the cutoff point for "kid" is here, but I rather like Oreki Houtaro, from "Hyouka." Maybe he's disqualified, though, because he isn't a functional detective on his own; someone has to be badgering him to the point where investigating becomes less troublesome than not investigating.

Much of that list doesn't really qualify as "plucky." Actually, I have a feeling you mainly chose it because the word sounds childish rather than actually putting much thought into its meaning.

It's great that Victorique got a respectable second place behind the longest running littlest kid detective. I hope Gosick gets picked up someone.

Victorique was my number one choice as well. I share your desire for a Gosick license...

Another character that could be added to the list and who I might have chosen was Christie from Young Miss Holmes.

I expected to see Minamo Chizuko from Nijuu Mensou no Musume in this list. She certainly fits the definition of "plucky". It's also one of the best performances by Hirano Aya I've heard.

I wonder if Yotsuba from Sister Princess would fit in, since she fancies herself as Sherlock Holmes and has a habit of spying on her sibling Wataru every now and then?

I watched Heaven's Memo Pad after seeing Gosick and it almost seemed like Alice was Victorique reincarnated.

After Discotek's announcements this week, I feel a little more hopeful about Gosick and other shows I've been wanting licensed...
