Curious what the IP could be. If its Star Wars, it could be serious bank for them if done right and maybe help stop the decline some in their Western markets.

Game of Thrones, perhaps?

There are the Telltale Game of Thrones games, but those are adventure games and I could very easily imagine Koei Tecmo doing a Game of Thrones strategy RPG along the lines of Koei's own very long-lasting Three Kingdoms franchise.

EDIT: Or an action-strategy game like the spin-off Dynasty Warriors franchise.

Doesn't EA control the videogame rights to Star Wars now? (Aside from maybe the Lego games, I'm not sure what the current status of that license is although I wouldn't be surprised if new Lego Star Wars games are co-branded Warner/Traveller's Tales and EA.)

They could sublicense it to Koei but I suspect if it was a sublicense from EA, that would have been mentioned in the press release.

I'm not saying I'm absolutely sure the IP is Game of Thrones, but Game of Thrones is an IP that is almost perfectly well-suited to Koei and the market isn't yet saturated with Game of Thrones games (there are the Telltale games I mentioned before and a mobile game and I think that's it).

They actually said the game they'd like to do the most is Star Wars musou. I'd love it; they could bishie up young obi wan <3 They could just call it Jedi Warriors or Force Warriors or something like that idk. This is great news I've been a musou fan for like a decade now I'd love to see some LotR (Middle Earth Warriors?) and Harry Potter (Hogwarts Warriors?) Although I really, really hope this leads to some sort of American Warriors game that Zac alluded to awhile ago in a podcast. Bishounen Stonewall Jackson and such lol Anime hyper

Great news for Nights of Azure. Hopefully it becomes a good series.

They don't have control they just have the right to make the high quality games that Disney isn't equipped to handle. It's to lucrative for Disney to give away full control.

Remake of Force Unleashed? I can see Team Ninja doing this one, just don't let Omega Force to come anywhere close.

LOL I'm not a PC elitist but the idea of EA being well eqiupped to "publish" any and all Star Wars games is laughable. Especially in light of all the derision they've been getting for Battlefront.

Also Disney Infinity 3.0 is themed after Star Wars and a couple of other Disney owned IPs so EA doesn't control all the Star Wars related video games.

I'll be honest, I'm kind of hoping it's anything else but "just another Star Wars thing". I'm 41 years old and I'm getting to the point where I feel I've had my fill of Star Wars everything for one lifetime and the relentless promotional tie-ins for the new Star Wars movie aren't exactly alleviating my "jaded with Star Wars" status.

(From a Hot Wheels collector perspective, I'm also kind of peeved that those Star Wars character cars that just hang unsold on the pegs have taken way too much peg space away from other specialty Hot Wheels lines. Especially at Toys R' Us. :shakesfist:)

I mean, I'll buy the unaltered original trilogy on Blu-Ray (and hopefully 4K physical media further into the future) but that's about as much Star Wars for which I can muster any enthusiasm anymore.

I'm not even a Game of Thrones fan (I've never read the books and it's not on any channels I can watch) yet I get a bit of the gist of what's going on through general geek pop culture osmosis and if there was a Japanese-made (or Japanese-co-produced) strategy game based on that world, it could actually be a good point-of-entry for me into that fandom.

Don't let your hate for EA fool you they are one of only 3 companies that could handle making more then one AAA Star Wars game the other 2 would be Activision and Ubisoft. Since EA has a history of making decent to awesome Star Wars games it's no wonder Disney made a deal with them instead of anyone else.

As for Disney Infinity I forgot to mention that the Disney/EA deal also revealed that the Disney studios would be making casual and mobile Star Wars games.

You could always borrow the DVD's from the Ottawa Public Library it would be a better point of entry then a video game when it comes to Game of Thrones.

^ For the sort of sprawling fantasy story Game of Thrones is, I think I'd be more interested in it in strategy game format than watching it as a TV series or reading the novels. I need that interactivity to sustain my interest.
