This looks like a remarkable book covering a notable historical period from a unique perspective. And Amazon has it for just over 10 bucks. I'm in. Cool

I bought this for the library I work at (the Mission Viejo Library) and no one checks it out. Its been on the shelf since Feb 1999 and it has circulated only once while the Inuyasha books have gone out 30 times. Oh well.

I remember that one. It was a bunch of 1 page comics talking about the farm labor, city labor, fears of racist gangs, concern over immigration policies. My JP language teacher's father had actually been alive at that time and gone through those kinds of incidents.

Never bought it, perhaps I should look for it if it's not OOP.

I recently found out that the Danish Royal Library had a copy of "The Four Immigrants Manga" in its stacks, so I checked it out and read it. I recommend it as an interesting insight into the interplay between Japanese and American cultures in the period. It also hints at some of the root causes of the U.S.-Japanese conflict in WWII.
