I'm pretty sure that was just a joke to protect the real VA's identity, which, if you've watched any FUNi or Sentai dubs in the past, should be pretty easy to guess.

Shh. It's actually Duck's secret alias. Birds of a feather and all that. I'm not sure if Theron means this as a joke or if he's serious. "Tessa Ellory is British... in Texas doing an anime voice over for a pittance and a half. Totally a newcomer by the way, regardless of how good she is." It's got to be a joke. I've watched the whole dub and my ears tell me a long list of character voices, all with a common denominator. ADV films, of course. Right... He's not serious, right? "Interesting detail.." Oh. Well. I thought the original Japanese track and show was merely ok when I first saw it but the dub really sells it. Ok, probably the nudity really sells it but the dub makes it easier to swallow... I mean take... I mean easier to handle... It makes it easier to double entendre. That's about right. |

That is what my ears tell me. It is true that she spoke in a British accent throughout the commentary, but as Animegomaniac pointed out, there are a lot of factors that make it hard to believe that Tessa Ellory isn't an alias. If anything, I'm inclined to think that she was scheduled for a commentary in order to try to make that alias more believable. This is definitely a show that requires that you take nothing seriously in order to enjoy it. Fortunately, I was able to do that, and it seems like the cast did as well. Colleen Clinkenbeard mentioned something in the commentary along the lines of despite all of the show's questionable content, she still came away laughing at it. |

Is the dub for this show even more liberal than the standard fare Funimation dub? Because they obviously have no qualms about going a little crazy every now and then.
I found High School DxD to be a lot more tolerable in English for example. Whereas the 'comedy' scenes in the original are mostly just an excuse to show more tits Funi spiced things up by... well, actually writing jokes for the comedy scenes. Surprisingly really clever jokes that were obviously written by people who were a lot smarter and more experienced with the world than the original author. But when the show gets serious it gets bad again because they opted not to go all the way. The original series is just dumb all around whether it be the comedy or the serious bits but in the dub they go from being really clever and self aware in the comedy scenes to spouting some of the most ridiculously corny lines I've ever heard without even the slightest hint of irony in the serious bits. Usually I'm against messing with a show completely but I actually think the show would have been so much better if Funi had free reign. Not like DxD deserves much respect anyway. Do they go all the way with this one or do they draw the line somewhere? If so, where do they draw that line? I plan on checking the dub out so I'm kind of interested in knowing. |

I'm surprised the art wasn't criticized as much as the other aspects, the series did present itself as a monster of the week and instead just reused two robot designs for the enemy multiple times, it kind of screams laziness parody or not. Add the overall basic design of the penguin troops with made for animation minimalism (no hands and mouth movement or even much for facial features) and the corner cutting is very noticeable. It even extends into its moral, you can't exactly have an anti-censorship argument when you give the worse case scenario for your alternative (in this case allowing sexual harassment because "it is natural").

As far as why Luci chose it this time, my speculation is that it's because her maiden name is her religion. Ironically, she was in Shikabane Hime as Makina, zombie who doesn't wear panties. She was also in Dragon Knight: Wheel of Time, a porno. It might have been the non-adult version that ADV once had. However, it's still based off of a porno. |

See it bothers me a little that VAs expect me to keep their secret Aliases, do they really think they're fooling anyone? I get trying to protect you identity if your doing a weird show (Example, Lindsey Sidel used a psudo for Wanna be the Strongest, she was the only one in the whole show to use one and someone said it was because she was teaching a children acting class) but don't expect fans to protect it for you, no fans really care about that at all, or at least I don't. Any parent who thinks your weird for teaching their kids to act and doesn't like some of what you ACTED in (It's not even live action it's a voice) is already in a bad spot if they want their kid to succeed in any way shape or form. And trust me if you use a Pseudonym for a non-union dub and you can't even fool a few fans there's no way in hell you fooled the union reps. |

Cool. Only that the penguin commandos had their desing unchanged from the source manga. And manga obviously don't have to worry about animation costs and efforts. So saying they were designed to reduce animation efforts when the original medium the designs were used in was non-animated isn't exactly correct |

I did think it sounded somewhat like Lucy, but if that really is her using an alias then the audio commentary was damned convincing. (That's one of the best fake jobs I've ever heard on a British accent.) Bought it hook, line, and sinker here!

If you ask me though? I think the reason is simple. Daimidaler is an ecchi series. Funimation have basically cornered the market when it comes to ecchi shows so they've obviously got a decently sized niche. On top of that, they can also bank on DxD fans with this one. Still disappointed that OniAi didn't get a dub. The show was a pretty enjoyable watch and its sense of humour appealed to me a lot more than most other ecchi shows. Would have been perfect for a Funi dub. |

Tessa Ellory, is an alias for Luci Christian who isn't new by any means and isn't British, but has been know for doing a decent British accent. |
