Anime Central 2001 ACen 2001: Manga Entertainment
by George Phillips, May 11th 2001
Although a scheduling error cost Manga their panel, I spoke briefly with Keith Burgess about Manga's upcoming releases.
He mentioned that the Eva movies are in production. As we wrote earlier, the titles are on-track for a Winter 2001 release. A director's commentary audio track and numerous easter eggs are just a few of the planned extras for these DVDs.
Keith also asked everyone to be on the lookout for Manga's latest release, Blood. This Film will be available in stores starting July 31st.

This month's piece of old-school trash is Dog Soldier, the awful Rambo-cum-City Hunter OAV that tries to be intelligent and fails spectacularly.

Interesting story developments and new characters, combined with all of the elements that made previous volumes a hit, should easily allow this volume to maintain fan enthusiasm for the series.
It is not every day that one stumbles across a josei manga that will undoubtedly have both guys and gals cheering from the rafters for the protagonist. Run—don't walk—for your copy of Walkin' Butterfly.
Mushishi GN 4
One Del Rey editor is on record saying that Mushishi “was something we had to do for the readers of tomorrow.” Read it and see for yourself why it's worth being handed down to the next generation.

Honey and Clover Sub.DVD
A whimsical romantic comedy about five art-college students, it's possessed of a sweet romanticism, tinged with melancholy, and driven by events unpredictable enough to be called realistic.

Fujoshi Rumi GN 1-2
Those not familiar with otaku culture should use caution when approaching Fujoshi Rumi. Humor that has to be explained isn't funny, and you are unlikely to fully appreciate these books unless you're already a card-carrying otaku.
Ragnarok The Animation DVD 3
Given the epic awfulness of the first two-thirds of this series, it comes as no small surprise that this concluding third actually does not (entirely) suck. It actually manages some good moments in ascending to the level of mediocrity.

xxxHOLiC DVDs 1-2
The creators must have been hoping that viewers would be too distracted by all the talking heads lecturing on about wishes and free will to notice that this anime series is undistinguished in virtually every particular.
Random Fun
It's not adventurous or wildly innovative. Doubtless we've all read this before, and potentially we've read much better. But the quality of the story is certainly there, and the focus on the characters is rewarded by providing a really good romantic story.
