RWBY Manga Slated for Viz's Shonen Jump on October 31

Chapters to run weekly until manga catches up with Japanese monthly chapters

This year's 47th issue of Viz's English edition of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday that it will begin publishing Shirow Miwa's manga adaptation of the RWBY web series in the next issue on October 31. Editor-in-chief Andy Nakatani announced on the Weekly Shonen Jump podcast that it will run chapters weekly until it catches up to the Japanese chapters, which are serialized monthly.

Viz announced at New York Comic Con earlier this month that it will publish the manga.

The original RWBY web animated series by the late creator Monty Oum follows four girls with unique weapons and powers who are training to hunt supernatural "Creatures of Grimm." The manga is a prequel about these four girls who would eventually make up Team RWBY upon enrolling in Beacon Academy. The manga's story, supervised by Rooster Teeth, reveals "the mystery hidden in four trailers" presented in Japan.

The manga series debuted in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine last November. Viz had announced in July that it would release books based on RWBY, but had not specified at the time that it had licensed the manga.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Japan licensed the original web animated series for distribution and merchandising in Japan. Theaters in Japan have been screening episodes — dubbed with an all-star Japanese cast — in batches since last November, followed by Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases. The third set of episodes will play in Japanese theaters in December, and Rooster Teeth is working on a fourth season in English.
