Dagashi Kashi Manga Has 'Important Announcement' on August 9

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

This year's 36th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is revealing on Wednesday that Kotoyama's Dagashi Kashi manga will have an "important announcement" in the magazine's combined 37th and 38th issue on August 9. The chapter on August 9 will have a center color page.

Kotoyama launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in June 2014, and Shogakukan published the seventh compiled volume on March 17. The manga's eighth compiled volume will ship in Japan on August 10. The manga was nominated for the 41st annual Kodansha Manga Awards earlier this year.

The story follows Kokonotsu, who does not want to inherit his family's rural candy store as his father wishes. A girl named Hotaru, who's crazy about small-time candy stores, appears at the store and repeatedly visits in order to convince him to take it over. The title means "Cheap Sweets Candy," which is also the name of a Japanese band, but read differently it could mean "However."

The manga inspired a 12-episode television anime series that premiered in January 2016. Funimation streamed the series with subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English dub. The company released the anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on April 18.
