Akira Hiramoto's RaW Hero Manga Takes Break Due to Author's Health (Updated)

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

This year's 22nd issue of Kodansha's Evening magazine posted a notice on Tuesday to state that the issue did not publish a new chapter of Akira Hiramoto's RaW Hero manga as originally planned due to the author's "sudden illness." The magazine's editorial department did not say if the hiatus would continue past the 22nd issue, but the manga is not listed in the preview for the magazine's next issue.

Hiramoto launched the manga in the 20th issue of the magazine on September 25. The manga's first chapter starts out by following a female high school student who has a secret crush on her glasses-wearing teacher. The scene then shifts completely to follow Chiaki, the eldest of three siblings who is on his way to a job interview in order to make money to help raise his siblings after their parents died. On the train, he discovers a molester and his sense of justice urges him to protect the woman being harassed.

Hiramoto is also currently serializing the Me and the Devil Blues manga in Kodansha's Young Magazine the 3rd. The manga launched in 2004 but took a six-year hiatus from 2008 to 2014. Del Rey once licensed and released the series in English.

Hiramoto launched Prison School in Kodansha's Young Magazine in February 2011 and ended it in December. The manga inspired a television anime and a live-action series, and Funimation released both in North America via streaming and home video.

Update: The hiatus may continue past one issue; no return date has been confirmed.
