Netflix Subscription Price Increase Rolls Out for Existing Subscribers in May

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Netflix announced on Wednesday that its planned increase of subscription plan prices will take effect for existing subscribers in May. Netflix announced the price increase in January, but it only took effect immediately for new subscribers, with a roll out to existing subscribers planned at the time for the "next three months."

The increase affects users in the United States, as well as in 40 Latin American countries. The service's most popular plan, which allows users to stream in HD, raised its price from US$11 to US$13 per month. The service's most expensive plan, which allows users to stream in 4K on up to four separate devices, increased from US$14 to US$16 per month. The basic plan, which does not allow HD streams, increased from US$8 to US$9 per month.

The price increase is the first time the service has increased prices for all of its subscription plans (it had previously not raised the price of its US$8 basic subscription). The service last increased subscription prices in the United States in 2017.
