Chikao Ohtsuka's first and final role in a Lupin III anime in 28 years
The final Lupin III anime to feature Eiko Masuyama, Goro Naya, and Makio Inoue as the voices of Fujiko, Zenigata, & Goemon respectively. All three of them retired their own roles after completion of this anime.
Goro Naya's last anime role.
The plot involving Lupin meeting up with his friends for the first time in five years is based off of the plot of the Red Jacket TV series first episode titled: "The Dashing Entrance of Lupin III".
This is Kenji Kodama's first involvement in a Lupin related anime in 27 years.
According to the official website of Lupin the 3rd's 40th Anniversary, the plot for this OVA is based on the first chapter of the 2nd Lupin the 3rd manga series, "Shin Rupan Sansei," released in the United States as "Lupin III - World's Most Wanted." The chapter is titled "Lupin Family Reunion" in English and ルパン一家勢揃い in Japanese.
