Although Osamu Tezuka is listed in the credits of this movie, he later confided that Toei added his name to the credits (with his permission) for marketing purposes only and that he was not involved in the production in any way. The movie was however based on his manga adaptation of the same story, and borrowed the designs and visual style from the manga.
