Like most Japanese children at an early age, Ebichu has a hard time pronouncing "s"-based characters, often substituting "ch"-based characters. As a result, she says, "Dechu" instead of "Desu," and this is reflected on the episode titles. "Chu" is also the Japanese sound effect for "squeak" and "kiss."
In every other episode, there is a slot machine that spells out three hiragana characters. The first two are always "ma" (ま) and "n" (ん) and the third is a random character. This was done to tease the censors into thinking that the third character would be "ko" (こ), spelling out "manko" (which is the female genitalia).
To meet with Japanese TV standards, the word "manko" was bleeped out of the dialogues during the show's initial broadcast. The DVD's dialogue, however, is uncensored.
Kuri (クリ) means "chestnut." To (と) is often used in a sentence as "and." Risu (リス) means "squirrel." In Ebichu, "chestnut and squirrel" has another meaning when said in the Japanese language.
