Japanese word for a pencil board, an implement used when writing. It is place under the top sheet in a notepad, to prevent pencil marks from carrying over to sheets below the top sheet.
Pencil boards are often produced with fanciful designs from manga or anime, and can become collectibles in their own right - especially if they are produced in limited editions for inclusion as omake with a limited-edition DVD or the like.
