DPJ legislator quotes Fist of the North Star to explain party's situation

A key legislator close to Ichirō Ozawa, the former president of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), turned to popular manga Fist of the North Star to provide the following quote to the Sankei Shimbun paper:

[DPJ Secretary General] Yukio Edano and company are in a hopeless situation. To quote the popular manga Fist of the North Star: "You're already dead."

The original quote omae wa mō shindeiru, translated as "you're already dead," is a phrase frequently uttered by Fist of the North Star protagonist Kenshirō before the final blow in a battle, suggesting the inevitability of Kenshiro's victory over a villain. The Democratic Party of Japan has recently suffered heavy losses in recent months — starting with the resignation of then-Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on June 2, and most recently shown by the loss of the party's majority in the Upper House of Councillors on July 11. The Liberal Democratic Party, which controlled the Japanese government from 1955 until the 2009 election in which the DPJ took control, has gained more seats but not an outright majority in the Upper House.
