Shizuoka Gundam Statue's Time-Lapse Video Streamed
posted on by Gia Manry
A popular "Gundam videographer" who goes by the name darwinfish105 has posted video footage of the full-scale Gundam statue in Shizuoka on the YouTube website over the past month. The high-definition footage features the statue time-lapsed from day into night, when the statue lights up and moves its head.
The "life-size" Gundam statue was first announced in March of 2009 as part of the Gundam 30th anniversary celebration. The statue was completed and unveiled in July of that year on Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo Bay. The exhibit closed in September 2009 after its closing ceremony cancelled due to an approaching typhoon. In December 2009 it was announced that the statue would be relocated to Shizuoka, where it was expected to bring in 40 billion yen (approximately US$463 million). The statue was unveiled in its new home on July 24, 2010, and will stand until January 10, 2011.
