Screen Gems Gets Devil May Cry Games' Film Rights

posted on by Egan Loo
CAPCOM's horror videogame franchise already inspired TV anime, manga

Screen Gems, an American subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, has licensed the rights to produce a feature film based on CAPCOM's Devil May Cry horror videogame franchise. Kyle Ward is attached to write a screenplay about the half-human demon hunter Dante. Screen Gems already produced another feature film franchise based (loosely) on a CAPCOM game property, Resident Evil (Biohazard).

The Devil May Cry franchise's five games has sold over 10 million copies and spawned both a television anime series (2007) and manga. ADV Films licensed the anime for North America in 2007, and Funimation acquired the rights a year later. Tokyopop published both the manga and the novels for the Devil May Cry 3 game.
