Screen Gems, an American subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, has licensed the rights to produce a feature film based on Capcom's Devil May Cry horror videogame franchise. Kyle Ward is attached to write a screenplay about the half-human demon hunter Dante. Screen Gems already produced another feature film franchise based (loosely) on a Capcom game property, Resident Evil (Biohazard).
The Devil May Cry franchise's five games has sold over 10 million copies and spawned both a television anime series (2007) and manga. ADV Films licensed the anime for North America in 2007, and Funimation acquired the rights a year later. Tokyopop published both the manga and the novels for the Devil May Cry 3 game.
