Katsuyuki Hirano helms live-action documentary with late actress Yumika Hayashi

The production studio Khara announced on Thursday that it is co-producing a live-action documentary film called Kantoku Shikkaku with Koinobori Pictures for a September 3 opening in Japan. Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) is producing, and Katsuyuki Hirano is directing. The film will feature the late actress Yumika Hayashi, who passed away at the age of 34 in 2005.

Hirano had previously directed Yumika, a 1997 documentary film centering around Hayashi. As Khara noted, Hirano and Hayashi worked together before developing a personal relationship. This will be the first live-action film that Anno is producing, although he himself has directed such live-action films as Love and Pop and Cutie Honey.
