U.S. Voltron Force Cartoon's Promo Streamed

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Show debuts on Nicktoons on June 16; another video features Voltron USB drive

America's Nicktoons television channel is currently streaming a promotional video for its upcoming cartoon Voltron Force, which was announced last year. The television series will premiere on Nicktoons on June 16. World Events Productions, Ltd. (WEP), in conjunction with Kick Start Productions, is producing the project.

Voltron Force will be a sequel to the first series, taking place several years after the final battle between the Voltron Force and Prince Lotor.

WEP and the late Peter O'Keefe adapted the first 1984-1985 Voltron television series from two Toei Animation robot anime: King of Beasts Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. Both Golion and the first Voltron story centered on young pilots who fight against an empire of alien conquerors — with the help of five mechanized lions that combine to form a robot.

Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven, Richard Suckle, and Steve Alexander acquired the rights to a live-action film version of the series from WEP and Kickstart Entertainment's Jason Netter in 2009, although the scripts for the film were scrapped in 2010, putting the movie's production in "reboot" mode. World Events Productions and Toei Animation were in a legal dispute regarding the rights to make a live-action Voltron film.

Viz Media will produce original graphic novels based on the Voltron Force animated series and release them in 2012.

In a related development, the below video was created and posted to YouTube by retailer Vat19, which is currently selling the Voltron USB flash drive advertised in the video. The drive, which is sold for a suggested retail price (SRP) of US$36.95, can be posed and disassembled and comes with a "blazing" sword. It also stores 2 gigabytes of files, and includes desktop wallpapers, episode summaries, and a remastered episode from the series already on the drive.

In January, World Events' official Voltron website began selling "Form Blazing Sword" boxer shorts.
