Chinese Show's Similarities With Hikarian Anime Identified

posted on by Egan Loo
TV Tokyo aired Hikarian, later announced that it would collaborate on China's Train Hero

The Chinese website Tencent Games reported on the striking similarities that online Chinese users have identified between an upcoming Chinese animated television series called Train Hero and the 1997-2000 Japanese animated series Chō Tokkyū Hikarian. The computer-animated Train Hero series will premiere next month. Both Train Hero and Hikarian feature trains that transform into super-deformed robots to fight enemies.

The broadcaster TV Tokyo had aired Chō Tokkyū Hikarian in Japan. TV Tokyo later announced this past January it would be working with the Canadian artist Pat Lee (Transformers, Darkminds) and the Chinese studio Carloon Animation on the full-CG Train Hero television series. The story deals with a rescue team that handles disasters on the high-speed trains crisscrossing the world. The team undergoes transformation sequences to respond in times of crisis. The series coincides with the launch of a high-speed railway between Beijing and Shanghai.
