Fist of the North Star's 1/1 Kenshiro Figure Inlaid with 500,000 Crystals

US$130,000 worth in Swarovski crystals inlaid in costume for charity auction

Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Zenon magazine sponsored the creation of a life-size figure of Fist of the North Star manga lead Kenshirō — that happens to be inlaid with 500,000 Swarovski crystals.

Comic Zenon's online store will offer the 185-centimeter-tall (about 73-inch-tall) figure in a charity auction that starts in mid-November. Even without the costume and the figure itself, the crystals alone are worth 10 million yen (about US$130,000). The well-known figure maker Kaiyodo produced the life-size figure under the supervision of Fist of the North Star's own creator, Tetsuo Hara.

Comic Zenon plans to unveil the statue at Tokyo's Ginza Hakuhikan store on Tuesday, which is also the same day the Comic Zenon Online Store is slated to open. The first 77 people who buy the December issue of Comic Zenon at Ginza Hakuhikan will get a photo-op with the statue and receive a 7-inch Kenshirō figure on Saturday. (Miniature versions of the "Swarovski Kenshirō" will also be sold at the Comic Zenon Online Store.)

Starting on November 1, the figure will be on display at Tokyo's Haneda Airport.

Mainichi Shimbun's Mantan Web site has more close-up photographs of the statue.
