JoJo's Araki Draws Art for Quake-Affected Historical Ruins

Hirohiko Araki's art promotes World Heritage Site recognition, local reconstruction efforts

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga creator Hirohiko Araki contributed a piece of artwork to promote the historical Hiraizumi ruins which were affected by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster. Despite the devastation caused on March 11 at Hiraizumi and elsewhere in Iwate Prefecture, the 900-year-old ruins were successfully registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site this past June.

To raise awareness of the ruins' international recognition and the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the region, Hiraizumi officials asked Araki to create an illustration. Araki himself is a native of Sendai in nearby Miyagi Prefecture, another area hard hit by the disaster. Hiraizumi unveiled the illustration on Friday.
