Manga/Anime Artists Draw Tributes to Osamu Tezuka (Updated)

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Thursday was the 23rd anniversary of Osamu Tezuka's death, and many Japanese manga and anime artists posted images on the Twitter and Togetter websites to remember the "God of Manga." The creators drew characters from Tezuka's works such as Astro Boy, Black Jack, Phoenix, and Princess Knight for "Manga Day."

Here are some of their contributions:

Kouta Hirano (Hellsing, Drifters)

Nozomu Tamaki (Dance in the Vampire Bund, Angel Para Bellum)

Taku Kitazaki (Angel Cop, Nagisa Me Kōrin)

Keiichi Tanaka (Doctor Chichibuyama)

Gengoroh Tagame (Gunji, Naburi mono)

Tezuka's Black Jack manga will return this year in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine this year. The North American publisher Digital Manga is raising funds to publish Tezuka's Barbara manga in English, and his Hidamari no Ki manga will also receive a live-action television adaptation.

Update: Character designer Akemi Takada (Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikkoku, Patlabor) also contributed a sketch of Mighty Atom/Astro Boy. Thanks to GATSU for the tip.
