Retail Branch: New LovePlus Sales Put on Hold

posted on by Ko Ransom
Indefinite hold placed on sales shortly after discovery of "White Day" bug

According to a tweet made by an official account for the Japanese electronics retailer Sofmap, further sales of the New LovePlus Nintendo 3DS game have been put on hold indefinitely. The virtual girlfriend simulation game was released on Valentine's Day of this year.

On March 13, an official notice appeared on the game's FAQ notifying players that a bug where the March 14 "White Day Event" may not trigger if users triggered the in-game Valentine's Day event after February 14th. An official apology was also issued by Konami, the game's creator. White Day is a day observed in some East Asian countries where men who received chocolate from women on Valentine's Day give those women gifts in return.

New LovePlus was the highest-selling game in Japan in the week of its release, moving 104,969 copies between February 14 to 19, according to Media Create.
