Crossover fighting game version adds 12 characters, more functions this fall

The game developer CAPCOM began streaming a "New Episode 1" short for the PlayStation Vita version of its Street Fighter X Tekken crossover fighting game this week. The eight-minute video's game story begins when a mysterious "Ghost Ship" appears in the Antarctic Ocean.

CAPCOM will release the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken this fall. The developer confirmed on Tuesday that the new version will introduce touch controls as well as local and Wi-Fi multiplayer modes plus Near functionality.

The release will include 12 extra characters not yet available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. The Street Fighter characters Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley, and Blanka and the Tekken characters Alisa, Christie, Jack, Bryan, Lars, and Lei will be available in the PlayStation Vita game.

CAPCOM announced in January that the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game will include Mega Man, Pac-Man, Infamous protagonist Cole, and the PlayStation mascot cats Kuro and Toro.

Street Fighter X Tekken shipped for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in Japan, North America, and Europe last month.

Update 2: The CAPCOM Unity website began streaming an additional video on Tuesday introducing the PlayStation Vita characters Blanka, Sakura, Elena, Dudley, Lei, and Christie. The video also reveals that the PlayStation Vita version of the game will allow cross-play with PlayStation 3 players. In addition, if players purchase both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game, the PlayStation Vita-exclusive characters will be available to play on the PlayStation 3 version.

In addition, CAPCOM's European branch began streaming a gameplay video for the PlayStation Vita version from its recent Captivate event in Rome.
